Folksy Friday: Stocking fillers

There's just enough time left before Christmas to order your last few presents. Stuck for ideas to fill those stockings? I've been browsing Folksy for little gifts that would bring a smile to their faces on Christmas day.

This is my last post before Christmas. I'm taking three weeks off now to visit family and enjoy a well earned break. So I'll see you in January.

The observant among you will notice that there are only four Folksy shops featured in today's Folksy Five post. It's a busy time of year, particularly when all your orders are handmade, packaged and dispatched by you. Thank you very much to the four shops who did find the time to take part.

If you have any last minute Christmas shopping to do it's definitely worth checking out the handmade goodies made by these very talented designer-makers. Click on the shop banners to head over to their shops on Folksy.

And as usual I asked each seller to pick their favourite item from the say it Folksy shop.

Folksy Friday: Why are men so hard to buy for?

Both my dad and my husband have Christmas birthdays, which is so inconsiderate of them as it means I have to think of twice as many things to buy them! I don't know why men should be so hard to buy for, but it always seems much easier to think of things for women. However, I have been searching Folksy and have surprised myself in finding lots of lovely gifts that would make very nice presents for the guys.

Craft Fairs

I'm not sure at what point I decided that two craft fairs on consecutive days was a good idea... I spent most of last week worrying that I'd run out of stock at the first fair and have nothing left for the second.

My stall at Swanland Nurseries Christmas Market

I didn't need to panic though, because I hardly sold anything at the fair on Friday. 7 hours standing in the cold for little profit. It was plenty busy enough, and there was a great range of stalls, so the organisers weren't to blame. It was a lovely event, people were just watching their pennies.

Saturday afternoon I sold three times as many items in a third of the time, at a little local church fair. It was very, very busy, again with more people browsing than spending, but it was much more worth me going.

My stall at St Andrew's Church Christmas fair

The most popular item by far was these music notebooks. I only had one left for the stall on Saturday and that sold in the first five minutes. They've been selling well online as well, I can't make them fast enough!

That's it for craft fairs this year. I will have to think long and hard about whether it is worth doing any next year. By the time you take into consideration the fee for the stall and the cost of my time preparing and on the day, it's much cheaper to stick to online selling.

Interesting Reads #2

Just a few of the things I've been reading / making / pouring over in the last couple of weeks. Hope you enjoy them too.

I've been making these origami boxes out of vintage maps and they look fab.

Just, wow!

I've only had chance for a quick glance through but it looks excellent and I'm looking forward to finding time to sit down with it in the new year.

Some great tips from Handmade Success for things you can easily do to improve your blog (this isn't a new post, but I only just found it).

Definitely one to come back to when I'm thinking about getting my own site.

Christmas gift tags

Some of the very organised among us have nearly finished their Christmas shopping. I even have one friend who has all her presents wrapped! Though most of us are a few weeks behind the super-prepared, we will need to get round to shopping and wrapping at some point. And when that happens, we will need to label our presents so we know who to give them to and they know who they are from.

There was one Christmas I can remember where we all had to swap presents amongst ourselves and try and guess who should have which one as all the labels had fallen off. They are an important addition to a present!

You could put a boring white sticky label on. Or one of those slightly more festive decorated ones. But if you want your presents to stand out from the pile under the tree you'll need a good quality gift tag. Why not consider buying handmade tags this year and supporting small businesses. See my range of gift tags here, or browse Folksy for lots of lovely handmade wrapping and tags.
